Dehumidifier Tip-Over and Movement Detection Application Guide

Tip-Over Protection × Water Tank Equipment × Movement Status

Learn how dehumidifiers can use tilt and orientation sensing to detect abnormal tilting or movement and reduce safety risks related to the water tank and compressor during operation.

01

The Risks of a Dehumidifier Go Beyond “Falling Down”

A dehumidifier contains a water tank, fan, compressor, and other mechanical components. If the unit is significantly tilted or moved during operation, it may affect drainage, water tank position, and mechanical operating conditions. Orientation signals can therefore be used to support protective control logic.

WATER TANK

Water Tank Status

Movement or tilting may affect drainage and the position of the water tank.

MACHINE STATUS

Operating Conditions

During fan and compressor operation, orientation signals can be included as a protective control condition.

02

Orientation Signals Can Be Included in the Operation Enable Conditions

For example, when the unit is noticeably tilted, the compressor or fan can be stopped. After the unit returns to a normal orientation, the system can wait for a defined period before restarting. The actual delay time should be determined according to the complete product design.

Recommended Sensing Solution

Evaluate Equipment Orientation and Water Tank Position Separately

The RBS31 series provides fixed-angle, omnidirectional tilt detection and is suitable as an orientation input for dehumidifiers. If water tank presence also needs to be detected, mechanical, optical, or other position sensing methods can be added separately.

Key Design Considerations

  • Differentiate normal movement from abnormal tilting during operation.
  • Ensure uneven flooring or slight body tilt does not cause false shutdown.
  • Avoid installing the sensor where compressor or fan vibration may be locally amplified.
  • If water tank detection is also used, evaluate “water tank in place” and “unit orientation” separately.
06

Selection / Sensing Direction

Application Requirement Recommended Direction
Stop operation when the unit is tipped over 30° / 45° fixed-angle detection
Detect abnormal tilt earlier 15° / 20°
Water tank in-place detection Add position / optical sensing
