The primary function of an optical ball switch is to output a trigger signal when a product reaches a defined tilt, inversion, or movement condition.

An optical ball switch combines a rolling-ball mechanism with optical sensing. When the device orientation changes, the internal optical path changes and produces a stable digital output.

Many engineering applications do not require an exact real-time angle. They simply need to determine whether a product has tipped over, exceeded a safe angle, or been moved or tampered with. In these cases, an optical ball switch enables reliable event detection with a relatively simple circuit design.
